23. Buddhism - By Paul Nation

Telling Buddhism comes from the word Buddha. Buddha is a man who lived more than two thousand five hundred years ago in India. His family is rich and he lives in a beautiful house with many servants. However, outside his home there are many poor and unhappy people. he looks at people and asks himself these questions, 'Why are people so unhappy? How can one be happy? '
When he was twenty-nine years old, he left his family and his beautiful home and went into the world to find answers to his questions. First, he learns with the teacher but they do not answer his question. After this he lived alone in the forest and he did not eat for days. During his long life he went to many places and had many followers. A Buddhist follower is called a Buddhist and some Buddhist men become monks. Monks do not work and they have no money. They cut all their hair and they only wore a long piece of yellow cloth. They usually do not wear anything on their feet. Early in the morning, the monks walked along the road carrying bowls. They can not ask for food but people stop it and give them food. The life of a bhikkhu is not easy. They spend their time praying and thinking and trying to get away from the world. They try to follow the teachings of Buddha.
