Title : The Effect of Glossing on EFL Learners’ Incidental Vocabulary
Learning in Reading
This article is about research to determine the consequence
of glossing on learning incidental vocabulary of learners who have low English
proficiency. Glossing itself is a method that be able to help the understanding
of vocabulary reading and learning. In this article not only compares when
using Glos techniques and without Gloss techniques, but also compares dissimilar
types of glosses and also compares their effects.
The model used in this study was using 126 prep school
students at Nigde University. Participants read the text and are given post
test of the state and multiple choice. Participants must absolute the
questionnaire.
The results obtained were significantly superior
to the gloss group and the glossless group was significantly better than the
gloss group. The results of the study may have some implications that show that
gloss is very useful and provides beneficial effects for learners with low
English proficiency.
