Article 15th (Verbal Working Memory and Reading Abilities Among Student with Visual Impairment)

This study examines the relationship between working memory (WM) and reading ability among students with visual impairment (VI). Learning to read consists of achieving two stages - namely decoding and understanding the text. Although decoding and reading comprehension are related skills, research data supports the gradual dissociation of the latter from the first and suggests that other factors, such as working memory (WM), affect understanding more than just decoding skills. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between verbal WM and reading ability among students with VI. The following research hypothesis was established in this study:
(1) WM verbal associated with decoding in children with VI and blindness,
(2) WM verbal associated with fluent reading,
(3) WM verbal associated with reading comprehension.
In the current case study, the majority of participants (74.4%) were elementary school children with VI. The attendance rate of participants is equivalent to the decoding between class one and third class (58.7%). As a result, the participants actually were in their first year of teaching in the field of decoding. In the first school years as mentioned earlier, a link is being shown between decoding and reading comprehension. Because decoding is essential for reading comprehension in the school years and reading comprehension is influenced by WM, it is clear that decoding will also have a relationship with the verbal WM. Furthermore, reading comprehension is influenced by secondary decoding elements such as phonological awareness. Verbal WM influences reading comprehension and the latter is influenced by the decoding and key elements of phonological awareness and the latter is also related to the verbal WM.

The findings of this study are in line with similar studies in children without VI and the results of current studies are very important given the lack of research, which tests the role of verbal WM in reading by students with VI. The relationship between reading comprehension and verbal WM in children with strong and positive VI shows the important role of WM in reading students' understanding with VI.

Article 14th (Reading Digital Text Involves Working Memory Updating Based on Task Characteristics and Reader Behavior)

Reading is an individual process for receiving and processing written information, from decoding and recognizing words to the process of word-text integration and making higher meanings.  In digital and linear texts, information must be communicated in a coherent form that allows the reader to extract meaning and form a mental representation of the text situation. Hypertext, though, offers readers greater freedom in how they receive information by simultaneously giving fewer cues about what information will be in the next process and where to find it. Therefore, digital readings require increased activation of cognitive resources to enable the reader to deal precisely with non-linear text structures without getting lost.
This study examines whether memory updates predict students' understanding of digital hypertext lipocyte above and above the linearly structured reading of the text, and whether the association is influenced by the specific characteristics of reading assignment, reading behavior and individual conversation. For learning purposes, the results show that readers should learn from hypertext designed to fit their cognitive abilities. For teaching purposes, the difficulty of digital reading tasks should be stepped up gradually to stimulate new strategies and encourage integration skills in the reader. However, more research is needed to verify this conclusion.

Article 13th (Progressive Outcomes of Collaborative Strategic Reading to EFL Learners)

Reading is a learned skill that begins when the children understand that the letters make up the words, and the words convey the translated meanings. Teach the purpose of reading comprehension to make students understand the message intended by the author, interpret the meaning and implications of the message, and implement the message in a meaningful way. Improving the ability to read sometimes depends on the ability of the reader to handle a sentence or passage. Simple sentences are easy to understand, but complex and complex sentences require strategies to understand author messages. Most students, especially EFL students, find it difficult to learn the skills needed for effective reading. Therefore, we are interested in studying the application of the Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) approach in our classroom, as this approach is known to be effective in developing students' reading skills in group work. This approach was discovered and developed by Klingner and Vaughn. It was introduced as a strategy to monitor understanding, review and synthesize information, ask questions and answer questions, and take steps to improve students' understanding. It is divided into three stages: before, during, and after reading activity.
Therefore, they recommend that English teachers, especially in countries that treat English as a foreign language, use CSR approach as a focal point and alternative in teaching reading comprehension to their students. More treatment may involve in-depth observation and interviews with each suggested subject to obtain more concentrated data on the implementation of CSR in reading teaching.

Article 12th (Book Reading and Vocabulary Development: A Systematic Review)

Book readings are widely recognized in the field as an important vehicle for developing vocabulary in young children. A systematic review of their research, which aims to uncover what they know about conditions and strategies that lead to helping children learn words, shows that smoother book reading analysis will help guide parents and teachers who want to know what, in particular, do with children in order to improve vocabulary learning. This work also highlights the need for additional research to answer some critical questions about what parents and teachers should do during reading to improve the vocabulary of children. Specifically, they found that children learn a bit from the number of words they test after the test, even when the treatment lasts for several months. This review identifies the remaining vital questions about how to optimize vocabulary learning through book readings that require systematic inquiry to inform effective practices.

Article 11th (Predicting The Reading Skill of Japanese Children)

Written language supports almost all areas of modern society, such as learning, business, leisure, and social systems. Some people have difficulty in reading and writing to the extent that they fail to learn or work, through developmental dyslexia. Developmental dyslexia, which is a subset of specific learning disorders, is a disablement of literacy development. Developmental dyslexia is understood as a long-term chronic disorder that affects between 5 and 17.5% of children.
The Japanese writing system differs significantly with language using letters. There are two types of writing systems in Japanese: phonogrammatic kana, which consists of hiragana and katakana, and kanji logogram. Because the Japanese writing system is different from the alphabetical language, it is possible that the cognitive processes underlying the reading ability differ between Japanese and the alphabetical languages. Disturbances of phonological awareness and phonological work memory have been identified repeatedly among dyslexics who speak Japanese as their first language. Regarding the phonological encoding in lexical access, the correlation between the performance of the naming task and the reading ability is shown in children in general. Thus, the possibility of phoneme awareness is necessary to recognize special syllables. This consideration indicates that the relationship between phoneme awareness and reading skills should be studied among native Japanese speakers. Cognitive functions including phonological awareness, digit naming, and verbal work memory (especially the latter) are involved in the development of Japanese children's reading skills.

Article 10th (Letter Updating is Related to Reading Fluency But Not Comprehension)

Working memory (WM) is a system intended for temporary maintenance and manipulation of information, and its capacity increases dramatically during the development of children. It has been shown consistently that verbal WM, in particular, is related to the development of reading skills; i.e, understanding and reading of individual words. In this study, they aim to investigate the relationship between reading ability and reading in children with typical development. In particular, the WM update task is complex. Updating is the process of coding and monitoring relevant information and then revising the items in WM by replacing old ones with newer information. Therefore, it seems theoretically important to investigate how updating processes can be linked to different reading skills, in particular to develop more accurate measurements of their construction and relationships. To do so, they briefly outline the skill of reading skill.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between renewal and reading ability of WM in a group of typically developing children. Updating requires maintenance of information relevant to the objectives and control of irrelevant details, most of the working memory update tasks check this function by using materials containing semantic coding. In particular, here they focus on two levels of readability: fluency / decoding and comprehension. Overall, the results indicate a specific relationship between the smooth reading and updating of WM modulated by material similarity across tasks, and discussed with reference to the relevant literature in the field.

Article 9th (Improving Reading Rates and Comprehension Through Audio-Assisted Extensive Reading for Beginner Leaners)

Current research has shown that audio-assisted readings are a more efficient approach than silent reading. However, a much smaller SR group increase shouldn't be ignored. Without hearing the verbal release of the text, SR groups may have read slowly and intensively, stopping whenever they want it, checking for unknown words whenever they find it. They may also be disturbed by something else. One of these possibilities can be slow reading speed. Therefore, regardless of oral text help, students may have to be taught how to read in ER mode. This study examines the effect of audio readings on reading and comprehension levels. If the goal of learning is to increase the reading level, the level of speech must be faster than the reading level of the learner. Finally, the rate increase has been found to be greater if the reading interval between the texts is shorter because it can maintain reading motivation. Recommendation readers should read more than one gradation in a week to see the effect of ER. the increased reading level and audio-assisted level of understanding are substantially higher than the silent reading group.

Article 8th (The Effects of Updating Ability and Knowledge of Reading Strategies on Reading Comprehension)

Individual differences in reading comprehension may depend on the knowledge and use of such a strategy. Indeed, the primary method for encouraging inference makes, and thus reads comprehension, is the training of reading strategies. Theoretically, the ability to update and availability or knowledge of reading strategies is considered essential for understanding the text. The first aim of this study was to determine the relationship between renewal and reading comprehension. However, there are several studies in which their relationship to reading comprehension has been examined in a sample of normally growing children. The purpose of this study was to investigate the specific effects of renewability and knowledge of reading strategies on reading comprehension, controlling reading speed, vocabulary, and short-term memory. The results show that updating ability doesn't contribute to reading comprehension, when other predictors are controlled, while knowledge of reading strategies has an independent effect on reading comprehension. Relationships update skills and knowledge of reading strategies, as well as other predictions, with a similar reading comprehension on two reading comprehension tests. The relations of the predictors with reading comprehension were similar for both measures of reading comprehension body parts from series of words.

Article 7th (Reading Network in Dyslexia: Similar, yet Different)

Dyslexia is a developmental disorder characterized by reading and phonological difficulties, but important questions remain related to underlying neural correlations. Some children have great difficulty experiencing smooth decoding and, if this continues, may have a specific reading disability (alluded to here as dyslexia). Dyslexia is a continuous and inexplicable difficulty in achieving accurate and / or fluent speech recognition, despite adequate intelligence and opportunity. Dyslexia children usually can't decode in writing, have difficulty in reading words than can recognize and pronounce well-known words. Patients with inherited dyslexia are thought to rely on their right hemisphere to read due to damage to the left hemisphere (usually due to left temporal or parietal-occipital lesions).
In this study, they used partial least squares (PLS), multivariate analytic techniques, to investigate the neural networks used by dyslexia while performing rhyming tasks. Although the entire reading network is mostly similar to typical dyslexia and readers, it doesn't correlate with behavior in the same way in both groups. This is motivated by previous research which shows that the activity inside and functional functional relationships between the left hemisphere region are linearly correlated with reading ability in the normal reader, but don't read the difficulty group. These findings emphasize the importance of understanding right hemisphere activation in dyslexia and provide promising guidance for the restoration of reading disorders.

Article 6th (The Effectiveness and Efficiency of Extensive Reading at Developing Reading Rates)

Several studies have examined the development of reading rates of foreign language learners through extensive readings. Previous research conducted has methodological limitations with respect to research design or interpretation of the results. To overcome this limitation, this study investigated the impact of widespread reading and multiplication of language on the development of reading rates using experimental research design with evidence that the time spent on each treatment was similar. This study provides evidence of the effectiveness and efficiency of the development of reading levels through an extensive reading relative to traditional reading instruction with grammar translation exercises.
This study investigates the impact of ER translation treatment and the grammar on the development of reading levels among Japanese language graduates who do timed reading exercises. Researchers have expressed the need for an experimental design that investigates the effectiveness of ER relative to grammatical translation at an increased reading level. A review of the research on ER has found persuasive evidence that extensive readings performed consistently during a sustained period will have a positive impact on students' reading ability. The findings, together with the results of this research into the efficiency and effectiveness of the ER through traditional grammatical translation methods, can be used to guide policy and practice decisions in the Asian context.
