Votes for
Women
Kate
Sheppard was the leader of the
group who fought for votes
for women. She was born
in 1848 in England and was an
unusual person for her time. In order to
get women the vote she
had to have
the help of men who
were in Government.
Kate Sheppard and many other women continued
to fight for the right
to vote.
The fight for women's rights first started in
England in 1792. New
Zealand was one of the first countries
to allow women to go
to university. Courageous women like Kate Sheppard have led the way
in improving the lives of
all women.
