"Indonesia attempts to count all its islands"

Indonesia has begun counting its islands. He wanted to find and name 1,700 islands in time for a UN conference on geographical names in August. Indonesia wants the island and fishing rights around it so neighbors can not claim it. Indonesia says that illegal fishing costs billions of dollars in lost money annually. A spokesman said 60% of the island in Indonesia has no name or legal status, so other countries can easily take it.
Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world. In 2012, there are 13,466 islands but there could be 17,508. The UN says an island is a naturally formed area surrounded by water, still exposed during high tide. It is a great task to count the islands. A spokesperson said, "We must visit each of these islands, and then we record the coordinates, names, meaning of names and describe the landscape and its geographic history.
