This article is an attempt to explore the level of awareness of EFL Iranian learners about reading comprehension strategies and their potential failure of understanding. This study used a sample of 12 EFL university students interviewed by giving an interview questionnaire. This interview consists of open-ended questions aimed at generating information about students' experiences in reading.
Overall, the results show that reading comprehension does not develop as word decoding. But it depends on different skills and may need specific teaching.
In this case, adequate attention should be given to what strategies should be taught and how and where instruction should occur. Since learning depends on the context, it can not be separated from the situation in which it is located .
