HOLLOW CITY – Ransom Riggs
The loop at Cairnholm was invaded by Wight, led by Dr. Golan. With all his might, Miss Peregrine and Jacob's foster children try to retrieve Miss Peregrine in the shape of the Eagle bird by being poisoned by Wight, so she can not turn into a human again. After killing Dr. Golan, they together leave the loop to the nearest island. They tried to heal and restore the form of Miss Peregrine to human form again. On the island, they find a loop led by Miss Wren. Unfortunately, Miss Wren is not in place. He had gone to London to save Ymbryne who was taken prisoner by Wight. So they set out for London following Miss Wren. In London, they meet with Melina, the telekinetic girl and Joel-Peter the Blind Brother, a frequency transmitter. With both of them, Miss Peregrine's foster children headed for the Cathedral, a place they thought was Miss Wren's hiding place.
The characters are really unique. Ransom Riggs describes it well. I can feel that other characters have different karakas from other characters. Look how plain the Olive thinks that his new friend is sold because he sees the sticker on the girl. Also feel how annoying the Enoch is. Always rude, speaking without any hesitation, making the listener feel irritated sometimes. Emma who is angry but more self-controlling among other children.
Ransom Riggs spread tension well throughout the story. He knows when adding tension as I get bored with the plot, so my reading interest goes up again. Although the problems faced in this book are only two: healing Miss Peregrine and fighting with Wight all the way to find the healing. At the end, Ransom Riggs also smartly left a curious trail so I wanted to read the rest of the story.
This is the second novel of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children. I haven’t read the first book yet. So, at the beginning of the story I found it a little difficult to understand because this story is a continuation of the previous story.
