   In a village precisely by the beach near La Paz, there is a small family of Kino, a fisherman with a wife named Juana and his son named Coyotito. Even though they live in a poor state, but they are quite happy. One day Coyotito was bitten by a scorpion. It made Kino and Juana worried so they decided to take Coyotito to a doctor in town, since there was no doctor in the village. But when he arrived, the doctor refused to help them because he felt they were from a poor family and could not afford to pay. His arrogant nature and his bad attitude, made Kino angry and headed out to sea to find many pearls in order to pay the doctor. Very surprising when he found a great pearl on the seabed. News of the discovery was heard by all the people both in the village and in the city, especially by doctors, even church pastors. Everyone wants the pearls. But Kino keeps on keeping the pearl, though his wife has asked him to throw the rock away. One day Kino intends to sell it in town and hopes to get a good price, but the pearl middleman offers it for a low price. It made them return to the village, when they arrived in the village, they were shocked when they saw the small boat was damaged and the house was burned. For a while he lived with his brother, until he decided to go to the a mountain. While on the trip he knows that there are 3 people who follow him. When they rest in the cave, Kino asks his wife and son to remain in the cave and he will kill the 3 men. When the fighting is about to happen, Coyotito cries and the men shoot straight at the cave and his son dies. It made him very angry and killed all of them. Eventually they lost everything, including their baby child because of the pearl.
