book : SENSE AND SENSSIBILITY

SENSE AND SENSIBILITY – Jane Austen

Sense and Sensibility tells the story of how Elinor and Marianne, the daughters of the Dashwood family who have entered the age of marriage ready, face the intrigue of 18th century life in England that is very thick with the nuances of matchmaking, heritage, and social life are vulnerable scandal and should always be perfect in people's eyes. At that time one's honor is judged by wealth, high social status, and also pride of a high position which is often passed down from generation to generation.

Elinor, Marianne, along with their mother and sister, Margaret was forced to leave the house they had been living after their stepfather Henry Dashwood died and left the house to John, the only son of Henry's first wife. Although John really did not mind the existence of stepmother and half sister, but the Wife did not like their existence so as to take part in getting rid of her husband's half brother.

Elinor who secretly nurtures deep feelings for a young man who had been considered less valuable by the man's family had to accept a bad reality when his acquaintance with a girl revealed the bitter truth that hurt him. Elinor, however, did not mind it too much and kept it tight. Unlike the case with the heartbreaking Marianne to worry the people around her. When a truth is revealed and Elinor is forced to show her true feelings, Marianne realizes that all this time her brother is living in the torment of love.

Based on my reading, Jane Austen's first work is then a classic work that has been repeatedly made adaptation version of the film.

My first impression when I found this book is I was not sure to read it because it has so many pages and chapters, but I tried to start to read it. I enjoyed while I often found so many difficult vocabulary, so I had to open dictionary many times to look for the meaning.
