Small-scale Hydropower in Africa: Socio-technical design for renewable energy in Tanzanian villages.

Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources, which are naturally replenished on a human timescale, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and geothermal heat. Solar energy use has been rapidly growing in the Lake Region over the last few years. Yet while this is certainly a positive trend, renewable energy entrepreneurs still face many challenges due to lack of knowledge regarding product suppliers and quality. This results in their systems often being engineered by unqualified technicians. A specialised team from GVEP provided support to the couple regarding choice of products and system sizing, and linked them to a reputable solar supplier in Mwanza, Zara Solar Limited Solar powered micro-enterprises require little costs in relation to the benefits they bring, which, for GVEP, is a relatively sustainable way of accelerating access to energy in remote areas such as the Lake Region, too remote to be connected to the country’s electrical grid.
