"Writing With (out) Pain: Computing Injuries and the Role of the Body in Writing Activity"

This article describes the use of computerized writing lenses to explore writing as embodied activities. They used the definition of the five-part embodiment of Mark Johnson's philosopher to develop an analysis that examined aspects of physical, flesh and blood writing in addition to the social and cultural aspects of the activity embodied. With this framework they demonstrate the limitations of pure technological solutions for writing wounds (such as ergonomic keyboards), exploring the difficulties of incorporating somatic training in class writing, and suggesting that these injuries require varying infrastructure changes and demonstrate the benefits of writing. They advise instructors and scientists to use this framework to rethink body parts in writing activities.
