The British will soon vote on 'Brexit' - whether or not to stay in the European Union (EU). This is a big problem for Europe. It is said that leaving the EU would be a "major risk" for British science. A spokesman said that it is important for science that Britain lives. He said: "In the EU, Britain helps guide the largest scientific power center in the world."

British scientist Stephen Hawking says Brexit will be a "disaster for British science". He said Britain would get less money from the EU for research and British scientists would not work as often as European counterparts. He said that young European scientists came to England to work, but this could slow down after Brexit. However, the campaign group Scientists For Britain said that Brexit would be better for British science and not harm the UK.
