"Heart of Happy Syndrome". Scientists say happiness can also make us heartbroken, that is where the broken heart is a real disease. It's not just the sadness we feel, but we get something called broken heart syndrome due to stress, and in difficult times, like relationship separation, death in the family, or job loss. The medical name for this is Takotsubo Syndrome (TTS). People can get hit when happiness happens.

The study was conducted in the European Heart Journal. Dr. Jelena Ghadri analyzed data from 1,750 patients with TTS from nine countries and that 20 of them had TTS due to a happy event. Patients experience heart problems after birthdays, weddings, favorite sports team win, and birth of grandchildren. Dr. Ghadri says our bodies consider happiness and sadness similar, so that both can result in Takotsubo Syndrome.
