98th Power Sources - By soniamillet

fast flowing streams produce enough power. However, as electricity demand increases, rivers can not meet demand and large artificial lakes are built by blocking (blocking) rivers. Water stored in this lake can then be released when needed to run the turbine and generate power. New Zealand is a mountain country and a river and most of our electricity comes from these areas. Approximately 75 percent of electricity for household and industrial uses comes from water. The use of a fast-flowing river to start a machine called a turbine to generate electricity is called a hydroelectric power plant.
