This novel is about a story of a troubadour. He is Sam Galloway. He moved across Texas and Oklahoma. He went from place to place, played music and told story to people. The people and and the ranchers liked to listen to his story, and Sam got bed and food for his work.
On the hot summer days, he went to Merrydew Ranch in Texas. He met a lot of good people there, and after six weeks, he moved to other place.

At an afternoon, Sam arrived at an old man Ellison’s deep ranch. Mr. Ellison and his men were so happy with this new visitor. They had much fun time together. Mr. Ellison is a good rancher, but he was getting old at that time, and he had a trouble with his sheep and the bank. He did not have money for a lot of food and drink. He couldn’t buy things for his house and his ranch. He thught about this problem every day, but when he listened to Sam’s song and story, he smiled and thought that everything was going to be okay on the next day.

But it wasn’t OK. In the morning Mr. Ellison met a tall young man on a horse in the road to his sheep place. The young man told him that he did not like his sheep in his fields, so Mr. Ellison should moved his sheep to other fields. Mr. Ellison was so confused, and when he arrived at home, he asked Sam to play some music to make him feel better. Sam asked him about what happen and Mr. Ellison told his problem, but he said to Sam that he did not need to be worry because it wasn’t his problem.

On the next day, Mr. Ellison met the young man again, but at this time the young man was not angry. He asked Mr. Ellison about some one he knew from Jackson, Mississipi – Mrs. Caroline Reeves. Mr. Ellison said that she was his only one sister. Then, the young man told him about his story with Mrs. Reeves. Mrs. Reeves was a good woman, and she had helped the young man for many times. The young man wanted to be good to Mrs.Reeves and he  wanted to be good to Mr. Ellison too,so he would help Mr. Ellison from his problem with his money. Mr. Ellison was very Happy, and he went back to his home.

When he was drinking coffee in his home, the door was opened, and Sam came. Mr Ellison asked him to play some music for him because he was so happy, but Sam did not do that. He told Mr. Ellison his story at that day, and he said that Mr. Ellison should not be worry about the young man again because he was dead. Sam killed him.

Mr. Ellison was quiet. Then, he looked at Sam and asked him to play music because at that time, he could not understand things. He was so shocked.

This story is so interesting, but I do not like what Sam did to the young man. He should not do that because he do not know the problem. If he want to help Mr. Ellison, he can do the other things beside killing the young man.
