41st free reading : Where Did New Zealand Come From ?

Many years ago there was a young man called Maui who lived on a island in the pasific ocean called Hawaiki. He was the youngest child in a large family. One day his brother was fishing but Maui wasn't allowed to go because he was too young. Suddenly he threw his fishing line into the water and looked a fish of great size. But diffucult to caugh it. As soon as he had caugh the fish. All the brother jumped into it and started to cut it up. When the sunrise the next day, the fish wa still. It became the north island of New Zealand and the deep cuts made by the brother became the mountains and valleys. The North island named Te Ika-a-Maui, and the south island named Te Waka-a-Maui.
