This novel is about a story of a couple that loved each other. They did not have a lot of money, but they had a lot of love. The persons of this couple is Mr. and Mrs. James. Mr. James (Jim) and his wife, Mrs. James (Della) have two special things in their lives, those are Della’s hair and Jim’s gold watch.

This story began at the night in December when it was going to be christmas on the next day. Della was so confused about the gift that would she give to her husband. She thought about it for a long time and then she looked at the mirror and saw her beautiful hair that Jim loved so much. Then she went to a barber shop to sell her hair to get money for the gift. After she got money, she went to a store and bought a beautiful gold chain for Jim’s watch. Then, she came back home and prepare food for them. Afterwards, she heard Jim came and she wonder whether Jim would like her short hair or not. Jim was not angry, but he was quiet. He ask Della about where is her long hair, and Della told him what happened. Then, Jim told her that he would love her whether she had long hair or short hair, and he gave her two expensive combs for her long hair. Della told him that he did not need to be worry because her hair would grow long after 6 months. Afterwards, Della gave the gold chain to Jim and ask him to show his gold watch, but Jim did not show it to her because he had sold the watch to get the combs for her.

This story is very touching, I can imagine how they really love each others. This couple is so sweet.  They also understand about the special gift for their couple. I completely like this romantic story.
