"The potential role (s) of writing in second language development"

Writing is often seen as having a small role in second language learning. This article discusses new research showing that writing has a facilitative role in language development.
Specifically focuses on three writing features:
(1) The speed is slower.
(2) The timeless record he left behind, both of which can encourage cognitive processes and thoughtful interactive steps to encourage language acquisition.
(3) Needs and opportunities for accuracy in the use of language, which may encourage learners to consult their explicit knowledge when planning, monitoring, or reviewing their production.
It provides a critical discussion about the role of the role of explicit knowledge in second language learning.
