"Scaffolding the writing development of the Argument genre in history: The case of two novice writers"

This article explains about documenting the development of argument genre writing between two early English academic writers after they participated in literacy interventions at a university-level history class at an English-speaking university in the Middle East. They utilize Static Functional Linguistic (SFL) which provides a systematic tool to examine the development of academic writing, by analyzing the essays of two students over a semester. This analysis shows how students who enter universities with limited academic writing experience can benefit from explicit teaching. The detailed qualitative analysis of this student's writing highlights the ins and outs of writing development, so as to help teachers anticipate and mitigate potential challenges.
