In improving the ability in foreign languages ​​such as English, the need for reading materials outside of the existing reading material, so it can read more widely to absorb new knowledge such as new vocabulary so that it can be more easily in the mastery of foreign languages.
In this study try to examine students' perceptions about outside reading and self-access counseling. Sample uses 350 students from universities in Taiwan, with the ability of students speak different English. The students are assigned to read some articles themselves and are then given a scoring test. After completing the assessment phase, the students completed a survey. Results show
This lesson trying to investigate students' perceptions of outside reading and self-access counseling. Three hundred and fifty students from a university in Taiwan participated in this study. Their English skills range from high to mid-sized level. They are assigned to read some articles after class and then receive a scoring test. A total of four assessments tests conducted throughout the year. After completing the final assessment, they completed a survey. 
The results show that most students are not confident when learning outside, they are not sure whether their understanding of reading is true or false, they need instruction and guidance when doing outside learning.
