Writing a research protocol is a key step in the conversion of a set of ideas for a research project into a coherent infrastructure that will result in obtaining data to support or refute a stated hypothesis. The protocol addresses rationale, scientific aims, targeted population, and procedures and risks within the regulatory framework where the study will be conducted.
