84"FRee Reading"Pearl Harbor

Pearl Harbor

From the news I read about Pearl Harbor Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. Japan's sudden assault on base in 1941 caused the United States to join World War II. Abe did not apologize for the attack. He said: "The people of the United States and people around the world, as Japanese Prime Minister, I express my sincere and eternal condolences to the souls of the people who lost their lives here." Abe also said: "We must not repeat the horrors of war again This is a serious oath taken by the Japanese." President Obama welcomes Abe, "in the spirit of friendship". A total of 353 Japanese aircraft struck Pearl Harbor, killing 2,403 US personnel. Abe was the first Japanese leader to visit Pearl Harbor for decades and first visited a special memorial there. He spoke of the US role in rebuilding Japan after World War II. He added that the friendship between the United States and Japan is an "alliance of hope".
