I think some people may avoid reading because they lack the capacity and motivation to understand the inner thoughts and feelings of narrators and characters in a text. According to them reading can make it boring and boring. Such mentalization issues are related to the moody reader, the personality dimension depicting individuals who have difficulty in identifying their emotions and describing what they feel to others and having an externally oriented cognitive style. Individual differences in the deeper way have been extensively researched, but no empirical studies have been associated with alexithymia for reading. We also assessed reading and mental ability as potential mediators of the relationship between reading frequency and alexithymia. The results show that alexithymia is consistently associated with less frequent readings, and this relationship is mediated by negative reading attitudes and low mental ability. These findings suggest that chronic difficulties in emotional processing contribute to individual differences in reading behavior.
