(182) 17th Article : Contextualizing young learners’ English lessons with cartoons: Focus on grammar and vocabulary


Teaching English to young learners brings with it a number of challenges that mostly come from the characteristics of different young learners with older learners. This study examines the effectiveness of authentic animated cartoons in teaching English to young Turkish students. In this article It is an important requirement to present and use the language in a 'meaningful context' that reflects the original use of the language. Teachers are expected to teach by using audio or visual material methods, bringing realism and props, storytelling, problem solving, modeling, showing grammar, playing games, and teaching explicitly or implicitly. Because children are more able to use contextual clues such as movement (body language), intonation, imitation and gestures, actions and messages to understand and interpret the language itself.
