Before humans came to New Zealand, the country was covered with nature forest and there were numerous kinds of native birds. Before people came, there were no animals to kill them. It also the native birds can have a chance to survive and reproduce. The Karori Wild Life Sanctuary in Wellington attempts to recreate the environment. It is now run by volunteers. The park has three puposes : education, research, and recreation. It is open to the public for tours. The Karori Wild Life Sanctuary is special because it is in the middle of a city.
