There is the largest city in the South Island named Christchurch. It was a planned city, because around it there were sheep farms and farm producing milk and meat, and also there were the snow covered mountains of the Southern Alphs. Because the citywas planned, the streets are very regular and straight and also very flat. There were plenty of public parks and gardens for the people enjoy. So why in 1997, it was judged "Garden City of the World".
