This Novel is about a family that lived in the La Paz. The family consist of three persons, the husband was Kino, the wife was Juana and the son was Coyotito. They were live in peace and so happy. But one day, Coyotito was bitten by a scorpion.  It was the beginning of the problem of this family.  Kino and his wife so worried about their son, then they went to find a doctor in the city with their neighbor. In the doctor’s place, the doctor did not want to cure Coyotito because he thought that Kino’s family will not be able to pay the payment. Then Kino and his family with his neighbor went back to their home. Kino was very angry. Then he kept in his mind that he would find a big pearl or anything in the sea that can be used for his son’s treatment.

In the middle of the sea, above his his canoe, Kino and his wife was so happy because they found a big shells. They were so curious, then they opened the shells, and they found a big pearl in it. The news of the big pearl was immediately spread out to the town, even the doctor in the city heard about the big pearl. Every bod was wanted to have the pearl. The doctor that at the first time did not want to treat Coyotito came to Kino’s house. He treated Coyotito and remained Kino to paid the payment later. In the night, Kino heard a noise sound from the outside of his house, then he came out and some men was running from that place.

Moreover, the traders at that place wanted to buy the pearl, but Kino did not want to sell it because the price is to low. Then, Kino went to the market to sell the pearl, he was followed by his neighbor. They wanted to see what will happen at that time. At the market, Kino’s pearl still be valued with low price, then Kino went back to his home. In the night, some men came back to Kino’s house, they had a fight,and Kino was able to kill the men. Kino wanted to sell the pearl in the other city. Then, he and his wife went to his canoe, but they found his canoe was broken. Then they went back to their house, but their house was burned. After that, they stayed at Kino’s family’s house.

In the early morning, they went to the city and took a road that had never been taken before. In the middle of the trip, Kino felt that there were 3 men followed them, then they hide in the cave. Kino went outside the cave and fought the men. Suddenly, Coyotito was crying and one of the three men that hold a gun shoot it into the cave. Then the baby was silent. Kino was so angry to know that his son was died, then he killed the three men. 

After that, Kino and his wife went back to their home town. They passed their broken canoe and their burned house silently. They went to the side of the sea. Kino hold the pearl and throw it to the middle of the sea.

Actually, this story is so good, but I do not really like it, because the ending is sad. I do not like sad ending story.
