The Effect Of Bilingualism On The Developing Of English Reading
Skill
This article contains a study of mutual learning English. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of bilingualism on reading ability of students. The reading skill has been noticed by most Iranian teachers and students because of the importance of promoting the use of language and success in understanding the original material. Due to this fact that bilingualism and multilingualism have been increasing worldwide, most researchers investigate the impact of bilingualism in learning English. For this purpose, 60 female students from a secondary school in Kouhdasht, Iran, were selected, and assigned to two homogeneous bilingual and monolingual (Persian) groups. During 12 sixty-minute sessions in eight weeks, the two groups practiced reading through intensive reading and summarizing. After treatment results showed that reading ability was statistically significant in bilingual students, compared to monolingual co-workers.
